2024 Spring Preview | Men's Golf

2024 Spring Preview | Men's Golf

The ICCAC produced both the Division I and Division II team national champions last year in Indian Hills and Kirkwood. In 2024, both teams will compete against strong ICCAC & District competition to try and repeat.

Division I still houses just two teams, the Warriors and the Iowa Western Reivers. Indian Hills is led by Gaspar Glaudas who had an unbelievable fall and holds one of 40 spots on the Ben Hogan Award watch list -- an award that spreads across all levels of collegiate golf. Glaudas leads the individual national rankings by a large margin, checking in last week with 67.63 Average Weighted Points, more than 33 points ahead of the second-ranked individual. Overall the Warriors are ranked No. 3 in the country as a team on Scoreboard as of Feb. 21.

Iowa Western finds themselves at No. 13 on the same ranking page. Last year the Reivers took 17th out of 24 at the NJCAA Championships. Ethan Smith is back this spring after a top 20 individual finish last season.

The two teams will travel to Kansas City to play in their annual District Tournament which includes Region 6, 16 and 24 after the redistricting that occurred over the off-season.

Nine teams will be participating in Division II -- which now participates in a District with Region 9 and 13. In total, 13 teams will meet in Waterloo at Gates Park for the North Central Tournament.

Twelve of the teams will be trying to dethrone Kirkwood -- the reigning NJCAA Champions. For the last eight seasons, the Eagles have won the national qualifier (in 2022 it turned into a District from just a Region 11 only event.). Currently the Eagles are ranked sixth on Scoreboard -- behind another ICCAC school.

The DMACC Bears are the highest ranked Region 11 team in Division II Men's Golf at No. 4. The Bears reached nationals last year and finished in eighth (of 22). Drew Teeter is ranked No. 5 while Spencer Clatt is #37 in the individual rankings.

Iowa Central isn't far behind the top two at No. 8. The Tritons hope to rally and reach the national tournament as a team in 2024 -- their first appearance since 2021.

Hawkeye is No. 18 and Northeast is No. 22 which will make for a very competitive event come early May. Southeast (Neb.) is also going to be in the mix ranked No. 11. Only three team spots will be on the line come early May.
